Food Insecurity Facts


More than 11 million children in the United States live in "food insecure" homes. That phrase may sound mild, but it means that those households don't have enough food for every family member to lead a healthy life.

  • 1 in 7 children in the United States lives with hunger daily.

  • 17% of children under the age of 18 are living in households that experienced limited or uncertain availability of safe, nutritious food at some point during the year.(Source: Feeding America)

  • 6 out of 7 hungry kids don't have access to summer meals. 

  • 23% percentage of children in the state of Georgia under age 18 living in households facing food insecurities.

  • A family of four facing hunger may need 35 additional meals a month simply because they don’t have money to buy enough food.

  • 25% of children in households at risk of hunger may be forced to rely exclusively on hunger relief charities or soup kitchens to feed their families.
